Der Kleinkriminelle Moe Diamond verdient sich seinen Lebensunterhalt als Geldwäscher für den berüchtigten Drogenboss Perico. Gemeinsam mit Pericos Neffen Skunk, tauscht er Geld gegen Goldbarren und Goldbarren gegen Diamanten ein. Nachdem eine wichtige Übergabe kurzfristig verschoben werden musste, beschließen Moe und Skunk kurzerhand mit dem Geld des Bosses einen Alleingang zu wagen. Doch der geplante Deal läuft gehörig aus dem Ruder: Korrupte Cops eröffnen das Feuer und Moe und Skunk finden sich in einer spektakulären Verfolgungsjagd wieder, die zu einem verhängnisvollen Unfall führt. Moe verl verliert dabei sein Gedächtnis und alle Versuche, sich an die Vergangenheit zu erinnern, scheitern. Unterdessen setzt der skrupellose FBI-Agent Bill O’Donnell alle Hebel in Bewegung, um die heiße Ware, die Moe auf seiner Flucht bei sich hatte, zurückzubekommen.
